A leopard tortoise sheepishly peeps out of his safety shell, observing the viewer of the painting. The tortoise almost has a curious, wise expression (much like the beloved Sir David Attenborough) and seems to be challenging the viewer with its head on stance. The detail of his shell, face and almost elephant-like chunky legs contrast with the soft, dreamy background to emphasise the importance of the tortoise. This contrast in detail also reflects how the tortoise’s shell is its home and, therefore, the most important part of its life.

This painting would work well in most areas of the home or office, especially rooms that have a homely feel or other neutral, warm decor.
